Spudcan

A spudcan is a conical footing used in offshore oil and gas drilling, designed to anchor and stabilize the mobile drilling platform on soft seabed sediments. It functions by dispersing the platform’s weight, preventing excessive sinking or tilting. When the platform is repositioned or removed, the spudcan is pulled out of the seabed, which can sometimes cause soil disturbance or seabed disturbance. Spudcasts are critical for safe, stable operations in deep or soft underwater environments, ensuring the platform remains secure during drilling activities.
