SPT (Standard Penetration Test)
The Standard Penetration Test (SPT) is a common method used by engineers to examine soil properties beneath the ground surface. It involves driving a hollow tube (sampler) into the soil with a hammer, typically at intervals of 75 centimeters or so, and counting the number of hammer blows needed for each drive. The total number of blows, called the N-value, helps assess soil strength, stability, and how it might behave under loads. This data is essential for designing foundations and understanding subsurface conditions for construction projects.
