SPT (Sputtering Thruster)

A Sputtering Thruster (SPT) is a type of small spacecraft engine that uses a process called sputtering to produce thrust. In sputtering, ions (charged particles) are generated and accelerated to knock off atoms from a solid target material. These atoms are then expelled at high speed, creating a reactive force that propels the spacecraft forward, similar to how a jet engine works. SPTs are efficient for precise maneuvers and station-keeping in space, offering longer operational life and higher specific impulse compared to traditional chemical thrusters.
