Sports Cardiomyopathy
Sports cardiomyopathy refers to changes in the heart muscle that occur in athletes due to intense and prolonged physical activity. In some cases, the heart muscle can become enlarged or weakened, which might impair its ability to pump blood effectively. These adaptations are usually benign, but in certain individuals, they can lead to dangerous heart rhythm problems or increase the risk of sudden cardiac arrest during exercise. It’s important for athletes to undergo proper screening and to listen to their bodies, seeking medical advice if they experience symptoms like chest pain, dizziness, or fainting.
