sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (sCJD)
Sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (sCJD) is a rare, progressive brain disorder caused by abnormal proteins called prions. These prions damage brain cells, leading to rapid memory loss, personality changes, vision problems, muscle stiffness, and coordination issues. The exact cause is unknown, and it usually occurs randomly in older adults. sCJD is fatal within a year of symptoms appearing, and there's no effective treatment or cure. It is different from infectious or inherited prion diseases and is considered a sporadic, spontaneous condition.
