sporadic CJD

Sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) is a rare, degenerative brain disorder caused by abnormal proteins called prions. These prions damage brain tissue, leading to rapid mental decline, memory loss, coordination problems, and physical disabilities. The exact cause is unknown, and it typically appears suddenly in individuals with no known risk factors. It is not contagious through everyday contact but can be transmitted through certain medical procedures if contaminated. Unfortunately, sporadic CJD progresses quickly and is usually fatal within months. It is considered the most common form of CJD, accounting for most cases worldwide.
