Spondylodiscitis
Spondylodiscitis is an infection that affects both the vertebrae (the bones of the spine) and the intervertebral discs (the cushions between the bones). It usually results from bacteria or other germs spreading to the spine, causing inflammation, pain, and sometimes fever. This condition can develop slowly and may lead to serious complications if not treated promptly. Symptoms often include back pain, stiffness, and sometimes neurological issues if the infection presses on nerves. Diagnosis typically involves imaging tests and blood work, and treatment usually includes antibiotics, rest, and sometimes surgery to remove infected tissue.
