Split-thickness skin graft

A split-thickness skin graft is a medical procedure where a thin layer of skin is taken from one part of the body, usually the thigh, and transplanted to cover an area that has lost skin due to injury or surgery. The harvested skin includes the outer layer (epidermis) and part of the underlying layer (dermis), but not the full thickness. This type of graft helps wounds heal, reduces scarring, and promotes new skin growth. It’s commonly used for burns, ulcers, or extensive skin damage, offering a durable, functional, and aesthetic repair.
