Spindle formation is a crucial process during cell division that ensures chromosomes are evenly distributed to the two new cells. When a cell prepares to divide, specialized structures called spindle fibers form from the cell's centrioles or centrosomes. These fibers extend across the cell and attach to specific spots on each chromosome, known as centromeres. The spindle fibers then coordinate the movement, pulling the duplicated chromosomes apart and guiding them to opposite sides of the cell. This precise process ensures each new cell receives the correct number of chromosomes, maintaining genetic stability.
