Sphincters

Sphincters are circular muscles that act like valves in your body, controlling the flow of liquids or food between different organs or sections. They open to allow passage and close to prevent backflow or leakage. For example, the lower esophageal sphincter stops stomach acids from entering the esophagus, while the anal sphincters control bowel movements. These muscles are involuntary or voluntary and help maintain proper function and regulation within your digestive system and other organ systems.
