spermatozoon
A spermatozoon, commonly called a sperm, is the male reproductive cell responsible for fertilizing a female's egg. It is a microscopic, specialized cell with a streamlined shape that enables it to swim efficiently. The sperm consists of a head, which contains genetic material (DNA), a midsection packed with energy-producing structures, and a tail (flagellum) that propels it forward. During reproduction, millions of sperm are released into the female reproductive tract, where one may reach and penetrate the egg, resulting in fertilization and the potential development of an embryo.
