Specific Language Impairment

Specific Language Impairment (SLI) is a developmental condition where a child's language skills are significantly below what’s typical for their age, despite normal intelligence and no other developmental issues like hearing problems or brain injury. These children may struggle with grammar, vocabulary, or understanding and using language, which can affect communication and academic performance. SLI is not caused by lack of exposure or motivation; it appears to be due to differences in how the brain processes language. Early intervention with speech therapy can help improve their language abilities and support their learning and social interactions.
