Special Court for Sierra Leone

The Special Court for Sierra Leone is a judicial tribunal established to prosecute persons responsible for serious crimes committed during Sierra Leone’s civil war (1991–2002), such as genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. Created through an agreement between Sierra Leone and the United Nations, it operates independently to deliver justice, promote peace, and help rebuild the country's legal system. The court has successfully tried and convicted individuals, including rebel leaders and military officials, ensuring accountability and discouraging future atrocities.
