Special Constabulary
The Special Constabulary consists of volunteer civilians who assist regular police officers in maintaining law and order. They have similar powers to paid police, such as making arrests and dealing with minor crimes, but work part-time and often alongside full-time officers. Special Constables are trained and sworn in as officers, contributing their skills to support policing efforts, particularly during busy periods or emergencies. Their role strengthens community engagement and enhances police capacity without replacing full-time officers.
