Spaying and neutering
Spaying and neutering are surgical procedures that prevent animals from reproducing. Spaying involves removing a female animal’s ovaries and often the uterus, which stops her from becoming pregnant. Neutering typically refers to removing the testicles of a male animal, preventing him from breeding. These procedures help control pet populations, reduce certain health risks, and can decrease unwanted behaviors associated with sexual activity. They are common, routine surgeries performed by veterinarians under anesthesia, and generally promote healthier, shorter lives for pets.
