SPARCL Study

The SPARCL Study (Stroke Prevention by Aggressive Reduction in Cholesterol Levels) was a clinical trial that tested whether lowering cholesterol with a medication called atorvastatin (a statin) could help prevent future strokes and heart problems in people who had recently experienced a stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA). The study found that those taking the medication had a reduced risk of additional strokes and heart events compared to those who did not. It demonstrated that aggressive cholesterol management can be an effective strategy for secondary prevention in stroke survivors.
