Spanish Republic
The Spanish Republic was a period when Spain was governed as a republic, beginning in 1931 after the monarchy was abolished and ending in 1939 with the victory of Franco's forces during the Spanish Civil War. It aimed to modernize the country through political, social, and land reforms, promoting rights for workers, women, and regional communities. However, it faced deep political divisions, social unrest, and opposition from conservative and fascist groups. The conflict culminated in a brutal civil war, with the Republic ultimately falling to Franco's dictatorship, which lasted until 1975.
