Spanish football leagues

Spain's football league system is a hierarchical structure with multiple levels. The top tier is La Liga (Primera División), featuring the country's best teams competing annually for the national championship. Below it is Segunda División, the second tier, where teams vie for promotion to La Liga. Further down are lower divisions like Segunda División B and Tercera División, which serve as development leagues for smaller clubs and reserve teams. Teams can move up or down through promotion and relegation based on their seasonal performance, maintaining competitive balance and allowing new clubs to ascend to the higher levels over time.
