Spallanzani's Experiments
Spallanzani's experiments demonstrated that life does not spontaneously arise from non-living matter. He boiled nutrient broth in sealed flasks to kill existing microorganisms and observed no microbial growth, whereas open or inadequately sealed flasks developed bacteria. His work challenged the idea of spontaneous generation, showing that microbes come from external sources, not from nothing. These experiments laid important groundwork for understanding germ theory and the importance of sterilization in medicine and microbiology.
