Soviet ruble

The Soviet ruble was the official currency of the Soviet Union, used from 1922 until its dissolution in 1991. It was the central monetary unit, primarily issued and controlled by the State Bank of the USSR. The ruble facilitated economic transactions within the planned economy, but it existed in a system with strict government control over prices and production. Its value was largely fixed and not subject to international currency markets as in free-market economies. After the Soviet Union's end, the ruble was replaced by national currencies of former Soviet states.
