Soviet Military
The Soviet military, officially called the Soviet Armed Forces, was the military structure of the former Soviet Union. It included the army, navy, air force, and strategic forces, and was one of the world's largest and most powerful during the Cold War. Its primary goal was to defend the Soviet Union’s government, ideology, and interests, and it played a key role in global geopolitics. The military was driven by a centralized command system, extensive conscription, and advanced technology, including nuclear weapons. After the USSR's dissolution in 1991, its military forces were divided among successor states, most notably Russia.
