Soviet Airborne Forces
The Soviet Airborne Forces, known as "VDV" (Vozdushno-desantnye Voyska), were elite military units established to conduct airborne operations, primarily landing troops and equipment via parachute in enemy territory. Formed in the 1930s, they played significant roles during World War II and the Cold War. The VDV were known for their mobility, rapid deployment, and ability to secure critical objectives quickly. They trained for various missions, including direct combat, reconnaissance, and seizing key positions. Over the years, they became a symbol of Soviet military power and tradition, maintaining distinct unit colors and paratrooper culture, which persists in Russia today.
