Soviet Air Defense Forces

The Soviet Air Defense Forces (PVO Strany) was the branch of the Soviet military responsible for protecting Soviet airspace from potential threats, such as adversary aircraft and missiles. Established during the Cold War, it operated a vast network of radar stations, anti-aircraft missile systems, and fighter aircraft to detect, track, and neutralize hostile air attacks. Its primary goal was to ensure the security of key territories and strategic assets within the Soviet Union. The PVO worked closely with the Soviet Air Force but specialized in air defense rather than offensive operations. It was a critical component of Soviet strategic defense during its existence.
