Southern segregationist groups
Southern segregationist groups were organizations that promoted and maintained racial separation between white and Black Americans in the U.S. South, especially during the mid-20th century. They believed in keeping different races apart in schools, public facilities, and social life, often resisting civil rights advancements. These groups supported laws and practices that disenfranchised Black citizens and upheld white supremacy. Prominent examples include the Ku Klux Klan and the White Citizens' Councils. Their influence contributed to systemic inequality and racial discrimination, hindering progress toward racial equality and justice.
