Southern Cameroons
Southern Cameroons is a region in Cameroon that historically was a British-administered territory, sharing a border with Nigeria. In 1961, it united with the French-speaking part of Cameroon to form the modern state of Cameroon. Some residents identify strongly with their British colonial history and seek greater autonomy or independence, citing cultural and political differences. The region has experienced tension and conflict due to these aspirations, with ongoing debates about self-determination, governance, and rights, making it a significant and complex aspect of Cameroon’s national landscape.
