SOUTHCOM

U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) is a regional military authority responsible for overseeing U.S. military operations, partnerships, and security efforts in Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Its goal is to promote stability, fight transnational threats like drug trafficking and organized crime, and support disaster response and humanitarian missions. SOUTHCOM works closely with partner nations to enhance regional defense and development, ensuring stability and security in the hemisphere. It is one of the United States’ six geographic combatant commands, focused specifically on fostering cooperation and addressing security challenges in the southern part of the Western Hemisphere.
