South East Asian Treaty Organization (SEATO)
SEATO, the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization, was a mutual defense alliance formed in 1954 to prevent the spread of communism in Southeast Asia. It included countries like the US, UK, France, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Thailand. The organization aimed to promote regional stability through collective security, meaning an attack on one member would be considered an attack on all. SEATO didn’t have its own military forces but coordinated efforts for defense and support. It dissolved in 1977 as the geopolitical landscape changed and regional security arrangements evolved.
