South Asian Monsoon
The South Asian Monsoon is a seasonal weather pattern that brings heavy rainfall to the Indian subcontinent from June to September. It occurs because of temperature differences between the land and the Indian Ocean: during summer, land heats up faster than the ocean, creating low pressure over the land and drawing moist air from the ocean inland. This moist air causes widespread rain, vital for agriculture but also leading to floods. The monsoon then weakens in winter, with dry, cold air dominating. This seasonal shift is essential for the region’s climate and farming practices.
