South African War

The South African War, also known as the Boer War (1899-1902), was a conflict between the British Empire and two Boer republics in present-day South Africa: the South African Republic (Transvaal) and the Orange Free State. The war arose from tensions over British expansion and Boer independence. It featured guerrilla warfare by the Boers and significant British military efforts. The conflict resulted in British victory, leading to the incorporation of the Boer republics into the British Empire. The war had lasting effects on South African society, including deep-seated divisions and the eventual establishment of apartheid.
