South African Student Organization (SASO)
The South African Student Organization (SASO) was a political group formed in 1969 by black South African students to promote Black consciousness and resistance against apartheid. It aimed to empower black students, foster pride in their identity, and challenge systemic racial discrimination. SASO emphasized self-reliance, cultural pride, and political awareness, encouraging students to stand up against racial injustice. Although it was influential in shaping anti-apartheid activism, SASO was banned in the 1970s by the government. Its legacy includes inspiring future movements dedicated to racial equality and social justice in South Africa.
