Sound Pressure Level
Sound Pressure Level (SPL) measures the intensity of sound in the air, using a scale called decibels (dB). It indicates how loud a sound is relative to a standard reference level, which is the quietest sound the typical human ear can detect. For example, normal conversation is around 60 dB, while a busy street might be about 70-80 dB. SPL helps quantify loudness in a consistent way, making it useful for assessing noise levels in environments such as workplaces, concerts, or cities to ensure they stay within safe or comfortable limits.
