Sound Intensity

Sound intensity refers to the amount of energy carried by sound waves through a given area per unit of time. It determines how loud a sound feels; higher intensity means a louder sound, while lower intensity means softer. Mathematically, it depends on both the pressure of the sound wave and how much area the wave covers. Sound intensity is measured in watts per square meter (W/m²) and helps quantify the strength of sound in a specific environment. This concept explains why some sounds seem more powerful or invasive, even if they have the same pitch or frequency.
