sound as a medium
Sound is a type of energy that travels through a medium—such as air, water, or solids—by causing particles within that medium to vibrate. When an object vibrates, it creates pressure waves that move through the medium, transferring energy from one particle to the next. Our ears detect these vibrations, converting them into electrical signals the brain interprets as sound. Without a medium to carry these vibrations, sound cannot travel; for example, in a vacuum like space, there’s no medium to transmit sound waves.
