Sound Art and Sound Design

Sound Art is an interdisciplinary creative practice that uses sound as its primary medium to express ideas, evoke emotions, or provoke thought, often in gallery settings or installations. It emphasizes conceptual exploration and artistic expression. Sound Design, on the other hand, involves crafting and manipulating audio elements—such as effects, dialogue, and music—to support or enhance films, theater, video games, or multimedia projects. While Sound Art is often experimental and conceptual, Sound Design is more functional, focused on creating aural environments that complement visual media or evoke specific moods. Both disciplines require an understanding of acoustics, perception, and creative intent.
