Soul and Spirit
The soul is often viewed as the core of a person’s individuality—our conscious self, emotions, and personal identity that persists beyond physical life. Spirit, meanwhile, can be seen as the divine or universal essence—an energy or connection to something greater than oneself. While the soul relates to personal existence, the spirit is linked to broader spiritual or transcendent experiences. In many beliefs, the soul encompasses who we are, and the spirit connects us to spirituality or higher consciousness. Both concepts explore aspects of human inner life but serve different roles in understanding our essence.
