SOS (signal)

SOS is a universal distress signal used in emergencies to request help. It is recognized by its distinctive Morse code pattern: three dots, three dashes, and three dots (· · · — — — · · ·). Originally developed for maritime communication, its simplicity and clarity make it easily identifiable across different languages and communication methods. When someone sends an SOS, they are signaling that they are in urgent need of assistance and require immediate attention. Although not technically an acronym, SOS has become associated with phrases like "save our souls" or "save our ship" informally, emphasizing its purpose as a call for help.
