Somoza regime
The Somoza regime was a family-led dictatorship in Nicaragua, lasting from 1936 to 1979. It was founded by Anastasio Somoza GarcĂa, who used military power and political influence to maintain control. His sons and successors continued his rule, often suppressing opposition and benefiting from corruption and favoritism. The regime was also supported by the United States due to its anti-communist stance. Widespread inequality, repression, and economic problems fueled unrest, leading to the Sandinista revolution that overthrew the regime in 1979.
