Somatosensory evoked fields

Somatosensory evoked fields (SEFs) are measurable brain responses generated when the body’s sensory nerves are stimulated, such as by a light touch or vibration. They reflect how the brain processes sensory information from different parts of the body. During a test, sensors on the scalp detect electrical activity in the brain following stimulation. SEFs help doctors assess the functioning and integrity of sensory pathways and can be useful in diagnosing neurological conditions, guiding surgeries, or monitoring brain activity related to touch, sensation, or movement.
