Somatic nervous system
The somatic nervous system is a part of your peripheral nervous system responsible for voluntary activities, like moving your muscles and sensing things such as touch, temperature, and pain. It connects your brain and spinal cord to your skin, muscles, and joints. When you decide to pick up a cup or feel the warmth of sunlight, the somatic nervous system sends signals that enable these actions and sensations. It allows you to interact intentionally with your environment, coordinating muscle movements and providing sensory feedback to help you respond appropriately.
