Somali Nationalist Movement (SNM)

The Somali National Movement (SNM) was a political and armed group formed in the early 1980s to advocate for the independence and better treatment of Somalis in the region of Somaliland, which was then part of Somalia. It aimed to resist central government oppression and promote self-determination for Somaliland. The SNM played a key role in fighting against the Siad Barre regime, leading to Somaliland declaring independence in 1991 after his fall. Although not internationally recognized as an independent country, Somaliland has maintained stability and self-governance since then.
