Solomon Asch's Line Judgment Task

Solomon Asch's Line Judgment Task is an experiment that studies how individuals might conform to group opinion. Participants are shown a reference line and then asked to compare it to several other lines of different lengths, choosing the matching one. In a group setting, actors (confederates) intentionally give wrong answers during some trials. The main question is whether the real participant will stick to their correct judgment or conform to the incorrect group consensus. This task reveals the degree to which social pressure influences people’s perceptions and willingness to conform, even when they know the group is wrong.
