Solidarność (Solidarity)
Solidarność (Solidarity) was a major trade union and social movement in Poland that emerged in 1980 to advocate for workers’ rights, social change, and political freedoms under communist rule. It quickly grew into a broad, non-violent opposition, uniting workers, intellectuals, and citizens challenging the government’s authority. Led by Lech Wałęsa, Solidarność played a key role in the decline of communism in Poland and Eastern Europe, contributing to the end of Soviet influence and promoting democratic reforms. It symbolized the power of collective action and civil resistance in fighting for social justice and political change.
