Solidarity (trade union in Poland)
Solidarity (Solidarność) was a groundbreaking trade union established in Poland in 1980, initially formed by shipyard workers in Gdańsk. It quickly grew into a broad social movement advocating for workers' rights, political reform, and greater freedoms under a communist regime. Facing government repression, Solidarity became a symbol of resistance and played a key role in inspiring the eventual fall of communism in Eastern Europe. Its efforts contributed to significant political change, leading to semi-free elections in 1989 and Poland's transition toward democracy. Solidarity remains a symbol of peaceful resistance and collective action for human rights.
