Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (SRECs)
Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (SRECs) are tradable credits earned by solar energy system owners for generating electricity. Each SREC represents the environmental benefits of producing one megawatt-hour (MWh) of solar power. These certificates can be sold or traded to utility companies or others that need to meet state renewable energy requirements. By doing so, SREC owners can earn additional income, incentivizing investment in solar energy. SRECs help promote clean energy growth by providing a financial motivation for expanding solar power capacity.
