Solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC)

The Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) measures how much solar radiation passes through a window and enters a building as heat. It ranges from 0 to 1, with lower values indicating less solar heat transmission. A low SHGC helps keep the interior cooler by blocking more solar energy, ideal for hot climates, while a higher SHGC allows more solar heat, which can be beneficial in colder regions. SHGC considers both the amount of sunlight that enters and how much is absorbed or reflected. It’s an important factor in selecting windows for energy efficiency and indoor comfort.
