Solar chromosphere

The solar chromosphere is a layer of the Sun’s atmosphere located above the visible surface (photosphere) and below the outer corona. It is about 2,000 to 3,000 kilometers thick and appears as a reddish rim during solar eclipses. The chromosphere is characterized by rising temperatures, reaching around 10,000 to 20,000°C, and is composed of hot, ionized gases called plasma. This layer is dynamic, featuring phenomena like spicules and prominences, which are large, bright features extending outward. It plays a key role in the Sun’s activity and helps us understand solar behavior, space weather, and how solar energy influences the solar system.
