Solar and Heliospheric Observatory

The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) is a collaborative project between NASA and the European Space Agency designed to study the Sun. Launched in 1995, it observes solar activity, like solar flares and sunspots, and monitors solar wind—the stream of particles from the Sun that affects space weather and Earth's magnetosphere. Positioned near Earth, about 1.5 million kilometers away, SOHO uses advanced instruments to provide continuous, detailed data, helping scientists understand how the Sun influences our planet's climate, technology, and space environment.
