Sodium oxybate

Sodium oxybate is a medication used primarily to treat narcolepsy, a sleep disorder causing excessive daytime sleepiness and sudden muscle weakness. It is a form of gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), a naturally occurring neurotransmitter in the brain. When taken as prescribed, sodium oxybate helps improve sleep quality at night and reduces daytime sleepiness and cataplexy (muscle weakness). It works by calming brain activity and regulating sleep cycles. Due to its potency and potential for misuse, it must be used under strict medical supervision.
