Sodium ion exchange

Sodium ion exchange is a process where sodium ions (Na⁺) are swapped with other ions, like potassium or calcium, on the surface of a material called an ion-exchange resin. The resin has special sites that hold onto ions, but when exposed to a solution, sodium ions in the resin are released and replaced by other ions in the water. This process effectively removes certain unwanted ions from the water, helping to purify or soften it. It's commonly used in water treatment to control mineral content and improve water quality.
