Society for the Propagation of the Gospel
The Society for the Propagation of the Gospel (SPG) was an organization established in the 18th century to promote Christian missionary work, primarily within the British Empire. Its goal was to spread Anglican Christianity, support church activities, and establish churches and schools in colonies and territories where British influence was expanding. The SPG funded and coordinated efforts to evangelize indigenous populations and provide religious education. Over time, it played a significant role in shaping religious and social structures in many regions, especially in Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean, fostering the growth of Anglican communities beyond Britain.
